Three students viewing a shared monitor in a learning space

Learning spaces are locations where students can:

  • Work on team projects
  • Conduct meetings and discussions
  • View a computer screen together
  • Study with others
  • Spread out laptops, books, and papers
  • Share a laptop screen on a provided monitor
  • Avoid distraction
  • Feel comfortable

Learning spaces are comfortable, attractive, and quiet work areas with furnishings and technology designed to encourage students to collaborate on projects, study together, and share ideas.

Information Technology Services (ITS) has installed multiple learning spaces in some of the student computing labs at University Park to help fill a need for spaces on campus where two to four students can gather and spread out their materials. Review the list of Learning Spaces Locations to learn more about the types of spaces available.

Each space is designed with a different configuration to accommodate a variety of activities. Some are partitioned, semiprivate spaces providing table space and a large computer monitor or dual monitors. Some are open spaces with a larger table for two people to work together. Wireless Internet is available for students with laptops. Specialized technologies are available in the various learning spaces. A bright color scheme gives the spaces an inviting feel.

ITS will continue to adjust and improve these spaces, based on student feedback. For more information on this initiative, email learningspaces@psu.edu.
